Located on one of the top floors of a condominium building in Calgary’s Mount Royal Village West, SBD created a contemporary interior to complement the city skyline.
Since you’re essentially in the clouds, we wanted emphasize the views and let the interiors reflect the colours you could see from the condo. We picked up a moody blue grey and burnt orange and based our colour scheme on that.
The contemporary furnishings have soft edges and organic lines, while keeping the built-in cabinetry sleek and modern, in line with the kitchen design. A seating area was created by the floor to ceiling windows to take advantage of the views. It serves as a great spot for informal dining or enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine at the end of the day.
To create depth and interest we added lots of textures and metals, again to pick up on what you would see from the city views. The different metals were used in the light fixtures, wall art, side tables and other décor items. We also added some unique pieces, such as local original art and one-of a kind furniture pieces that are conversation starters. Some highlights are the silver console table in the entry that is cast in resin, the coffee table that has an organic, irregular slate top and the sculptural “broken egg” bowl on the round dining table.
In the bedrooms and bathrooms, tweed like wallpapers were added for some texture and warmth. The colour scheme was again kept quiet and serene with different shades of blue greys. Floor to ceiling ripple fold drapery functions as a black out window treatment while adding drama to the space and a cocoon-like feel when drawn.
